Winter Family Fun with Festivals

Now that the holidays are over, it’s time to settle in and find all the great things to appreciate about winter in Michigan with Winter Festivals!  Troy and Birmingham do not have winter festivals in the coming months, but Clawson and nearby areas do, so bundle up, gather family and friends, and spend a day enjoying ice sculptures, skating, crafts, music, and more!  Events below are listed in order by date.

Plymouth Winter Festival- The Plymouth Ice Festival is a world-class event in beautiful downtown Plymouth that is exciting and fun for the whole family. Highlights include, ice sculptures, musical performances, Michigan market, ice playground, live DJ, petting farm, horse-drawn trolley, artisans market, great food, and more!

Warren- Cold Rush- City of Warren

Rochester Winter Festival- Fire and Ice Fest is a great, free family-friendly event in Downtown Rochester. Events include fireworks, TasteFest, tube sledding, snow shoeing and cross country skiing, dog sled rides, ice skating, broom ball exhibition, ice sculptures and more!
Parking/Shuttle- Shuttle parking is available at the Buffalo Wild Wings Rochester Hills location at 1234 Walton Road, East of Livernois. Parking and shuttle service to downtown Rochester is free of charge. Shuttles will continuously run between Buffalo Wild Wings and downtown Rochester. The designated pick-up and drop-off location in downtown Rochester will be at E. Fourth and Main.

Campus Martius Park- 800 Woodward Ave, Detroit, Michigan
Detroit Winter Festival- Meridian Winter Blast features winter activities, live entertainment, and delicious local restaurants for the whole family to enjoy. Some of the great winter festivities include snow slide, snow shoeing, FREE Ice Skating on Campus Martius rink, marshmallow roasting, professional skating demonstrations, and more!  Detroit’s music scene will be on display on two stages, with more than 50 entertainment acts performing! Hop inside the Taste of Detroit food and vendor tent to sample delicious Metro Detroit restaurants and shop from local stores and artisans. Meridian Winter Blast will also feature a special Kid Zone! Throughout that event there will be several Comfort Stations where guests can warm up! Please note that no one under 18 will be admitted without a parent or guardian over 30 years of age after 5 p.m.  All guests under 18 must remain with parent or guardian at all times during event. 
Cost- Donation of 3 canned food items or $3 donation

Beverly Hills Winter Festival- This is a free, family-friendly event with winter activities like sledding, ice skating, cross-country skiing, and more.  Winter Family Fun Day is only held if winter weather conditions allow, so check the Facebook page to be sure it is running or for a reschedule date.

Oakland Twp.- Winter Carnival 2017- Flyer

Marsh View Park- 3100 East Clarkston Rd, Oakland Twp., Michigan
Oakland Township Winter Festival- Bundle up, grab your skates, and head on over. Snow or no snow, no registration necessary.  All activities are free of charge.  Appearances by Chewbacca and Darth Vadar.  Enjoy ice-skating, ice sculpture demonstrations, kiddie sledding, crafts, archery target shoots, and more. West Bloomfield Recreation Activities Center- 4640 Walnut Lake Road, West Bloomfield, MI 48323
West Bloomfield Winter Festival- The event includes: live animal show, deluxe hot cocoa station, snowman building contest, craft station, ice sculpture photo station, snowshoeing, and more!  This is a family event; both adults and children must register.  Snow or no snow, it's a go! Please dress appropriately for the weather as some activities will be indoors and some outdoors.  For more information, call 248-451-1900.  Must pre-register both adults and children.  Residents $5, Non-Residents $10.

Oak Park Winter Festival- Bring your friends and family to the Oak Park Community Center.  This is a free event featuring dog sled demonstrations, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, ice skating, carriage rides, reindeer, face painting, cookie decorating, ice sculpture demonstrations, sledding, DJ, entertainment, and more! Utica Winter Festival- All three days of the festival will feature ice sculptures on display, an ice rink with figure skating exhibitions and open skate, a warming center at City Hall (where you can also hop on a carriage ride), an entertainment tent with children’s activities and a warming house at the Utica Fire Department.  For the little ones, there will be visits from characters, magic shows, and more.  Saturday’s festivities will go out with a bang during the Fireworks Spectacular at Memorial Park. You’ll be able to view the fireworks show from all around the city at 8:20 p.m.

Clawson Winter Festival- This annual event features fire breathers and jugglers, in addition to ice carvers creating custom designs and a kids craft tent! Don’t forget to stay for the chili cook-off, the proceeds of which are donated to local charities.

Southfield- Winter Fest- website
Sunday, February 19, 2017 from 2pm-4:30pm
Southfield Pavilion- 26000 Evergreen Rd, Southfield, MI
Southfield Winter Festival- This free community event will feature an afternoon of food and fun for the whole family, including: children’s games and crafts, inflatable obstacle course and moonwalk, Rosco the Clown, the Southfield Fire Department’s Fire Safety House as well as ice and wood carving demonstrations.
