2018 Home Series: Girls Bedrooms- Tween Spunk & Glam

A Place to Play, A Place to Dream

By Jennifer So, Publisher, Macaroni Kid Birmingham-Troy April 22, 2018

Girls just wanna have fun!  And it is so much fun decorating for girls!  Inspired by the dollhouse already in the room, we re-used all of the existing furniture and bedding, and created a “girly girl” place full of magic and mermaids.

Initial Impression:  The Girl’s Room was bland and boring, with an 80s light fixture and beige walls.  The room had no “personality”.

Girl’s Priorities/Wishes:  There is no extra “play room” in the house, so the Girl’s Room needed to have everything necessary for a play room and bedroom within it.  The main priority in this room was making it an enjoyable place where a young girl could play and spend time with friends—a place all-her-own!

Linda’s Inspiration:  The young girl’s room had a very large doll house.  Instead of hiding it away, we made it part of the main décor and chose the pink wall color (Sherwin Williams 6561 Teaberry) from that.  We maintained open floor space, so that little girls could dance, imagine, and play.  My little client loves mermaids, so we used that as a central theme for wall décor.

The Results:  Girly-girl power!  From bland to beautiful, this room makes you smile the moment you step inside.  The aqua, pink, and white are playful and fun, and the pink crystal chandelier is fit for any princess.  Every child needs to feel like they have a space that is all their own, and this bedroom reflects the cheerfulness, spirit, and energy of this young girl!

Mom’s Comments:  My daughter absolutely LOVES her room!  When she has friends over to play, they immediately run to her room.  They can spend hours with dolls, dress-up, reading, and imagination games.  It’s a special place just for my little girl!

The Spend:  None of our projects were DIY, and professional painters, electricians, and handymen were hired for the work.  Still, we were able to give this Girl’s Room some personality for under $700 for labor, materials, and decor!
