After a long day with work and the kiddos—driving them from activity-to-activity, dealing with temper tantrums and picky eating, and mediating sibling arguments, your master bedroom should be your peaceful retreat, your quiet haven.
Initial Impression: Our Master Bedroom started with masculine bedding, airy window treatments, and a clunky ceiling fan that did not reflect the style of this Millennial couple. The lighting was harsh, and there was almost no décor on walls and surfaces.

Mom’s & Dad’s Priorities/Wishes: As a homemaker, Mom wanted a romantic, serene escape where she could read and relax at the end of a long day. Because Dad traveled often for work, his main concern was simply a comfortable bed and a place for his things.
Linda’s Inspiration: My priority in this room was a place for the couple to be together in a serene and romantic space. I wanted to achieve this with proper mood lighting, dreamy curtains, and softer furniture and décor. Because of budget constraints, the existing carpeting and most of the furniture would stay. The couple prefers cool grays, and the carpet is beige, so we selected a greige tone for the wall color, Sherwin Williams 7029 Agreeable Gray. It looks great, and no one looks color-blind.

The Results: Romantic, peaceful, and sophisticated, we were able to create the perfect place for mom and dad to retreat after a long day! A new bed with wing-back, upholstered headboard embraces the mattress (and its occupants). It is cozy and welcoming for the couple and even for the children to come in for morning snuggles. The gray and white grommet curtain panels are a softening addition to the calmness of the room, and the glass chandelier with a dimmer switch adjusts from the stimulating brightness of daytime hours to the romantic mood of the evening.

Mom’s Comments: I had no idea a room could contribute so much to how I feel at the end of the day! From the moment I walk in I feel embraced by the peacefulness of the bed, curtains, flowers, and even photos of my kids. I’m in LOVE with this room!
The Spend: None of our projects were DIY, and professional painters, electricians, seamstresses, and handymen were hired for the work. Still, we were able to give this Master Bedroom its personality for under $1000 for labor, materials, furniture and decor!
