February 20, 2019

On Saturday, February 23rd, over 200 people will come to the Stage Nature Center to attend the annual tree tapping event. This event kicks off the 2019 Maple Syrup Season at the Stage Nature Center which runs during three “sweet” Saturdays in March: 2nd, 9th & 16th. Each 1.5 hour tour will explain the history, art and science behind maple syrup production.  Topics will cover all aspects of maple syrup production starting with the weather and how it affects the production of sap, the history behind “Maple Sugaring” in the Troy area, theories on who started maple sugaring, and finally, visitors will witness how sap is collected and boiled down into delicious maple syrup inside the Sugar Shed.  TNS Executive Director, Carla Reeb commented “Our Tree Tapping event is one that we look forward to every year. With the generous sponsorships we have received this year, it will make for a very successful Maple Syrup Season.”
